Description:

Publisher`s notes:

This is the complete, informative handbook on the Wilson preselector gearbox! It describes in detail the design, function, dismantling, overhaul and re-assembly of this revolutionary invention of British engineer Walter Gordon Wilson. For drivers of classic cars with a preselector gearbox, it will increase their understanding of the technology of the gearbox, and gives valuable tips for maintenance. Finally, the experienced "DIY mechanic" will find this a reliable guide for repair and comprehensive overhaul. Even specialists in classic cars, faced with overhauling a preselector gearbox, will find this work a welcome reference guide.

With careful work and suitable skills, this book will allow overhaul not only of an Armstrong Siddeley type Wilson gearbox, but also one from manufacturer E.N.V.

The enclosed DVD contains a 3D animation showing the function of the camshaft, procedures for gear shift and how the individual gear units work, from neutral through to the direct gear. The DVD also contains, as PDF files, eighteen patent specifications from Walter Gordon Wilson dating from 1901 to 1953, the construction drawing for a gearbox test bench and an Excel file for calculating the gear ratios.

Peter "Banjo" Meyer - born 28th March 1944 in Hamburg -experienced publishing salesman, jazz musician, band leader, composer, concert organiser, classic restorer and amateur racing driver, developed a passion for English cars in his youth. From 1967 to 1970, he spent three years in Formula`V, winning the North German ADAC Racing Cup. In 1989 he resumed his old love affair with classic British roadsters - a Triumph TR 3A, a Morgan Plus 4 and MG TC. From 1990 to 1994, he was co-owner of a restoration workshop in Hamburg. He has restored his own Triumph TR 3A and MG TC and since 2004 has been hard at work on a Riley TT Sprite Special and a Riley Falcon Special.

With this book, he gives professional workshops and home mechanics a thorough guide to the maintenance and overhaul of Wilson preselector gearboxes.

DVD Video-Animation:

Holger Lubcke - born 17 April 1961 in Hamburg - trained as a technical draughtsman and then studied vehicle construction, but later moved into electrical engineering. His affinity with cars remained, in particular classics. Today he runs a company specialising in image processing and testing techniques in special mechanical engineering.

In his spare time, he still works on old vehicles, especially Rileys, which is how he discovered the pleasure of overhauling some preselector gearboxes.
