Publisher`s notes:
Scalextric, the ultimate boys` toy, hit the shops in 1957, with tinplate cars running on rubber track; over fifty years later it continues to bring the speed and glamour of motor racing to living rooms up and down the land. All the classic Grand Prix battles have been re-created in schoolboy form: Lauda/Hunt, Senna/Mansell, Hill/Schumacher. Names like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Lotus, and Ferrari have starred alongside a great range of trackside accessories and buildings, while special sets have featured James Bond, Spiderman, Knight Rider and Batman. Jon Mountfort will take you on a nostalgic journey through your childhood memories: the excitement of cars flying off the track, broken bumpers and windscreens littering the floor, and the thrill of saving up for a lovely yellow Porsche or a fabulous black-and-gold JPS Lotus.
Jon Mountfort is a freelance technical author who received his first Scalextric set for Christmas in 1964. Much later, he cleared out the attic and foolishly gave it awav. He has regretted it ever since. Having written many books on computing and electronics, he has now collected all the cars and sets he never had as a child, and has written a book about them.
