Description: In 1952 Mercedes-Benz introduced its racing 300SL coupes, forerunners of the famous production 300SL gullwing and roadster models. Little has been written about the racing cars, which appeared with both gullwing coupe and open roadster bodies, winning at Le Mans and in the Carrera Panamericana and finishing second in the Mille Miglia plus many successes in lesser races. The developed 1953 model was dropped in favour of spending the budget on developing the W196 F1 cars that dominated Grands Prix in 1954 and 1955. Illustrated by an incredible collection of previously unpublished photographs, this book tells the story of the forgotten champions from Mercedes-Benz. It will be welcomed by every fan of racing and Mercedes-Benz.
