Description: Henry Ford chose Cork as the site of his Irish plant in 1917 and for the next 67 years Ford palyed a major part in the life and development of Cork. The factory continued on through World Wars and civil wars and survived the Great Depression, but the realities of today`s world, with the growth of the EU and increasingly uneconomic levels of production spelled the end for Cork and it closed down in 1984. This book tells the whole story of Ford in Cork, drawing from interviews with former employees from top mangement to shop-floor workers and trade unionists plus correspondence from the Cork management to head office. It is a fascinating study for any student of motor industry history, industrial history or Ireland.
