Description

The Cleveland engine was created to fill the gap between the then 302ci Windsor small-block Ford V8 and the FE big-block, the same basic engine to be used in everything from truck applications to high performance race engines. The obvious difference between Windsor and Cleveland blocks is that the Cleveland block casting extends to enclose the timing chain, while the Windsor engine has a large timing chain cover. The Cleveland was produced in the USA from 1969 to 1974. A 400ci Cleveland was produced at in Canada (Windsor Engine Plant) from 1971, mainly for truck use. When production of the Cleveland ceased in the USA, Ford Australia moved to produce Cleveland V8s in Geelong, using Australian cast blocks from 1975. Production of Cleveland engines ended in Australia in 1982.

Years of meticulous research have resulted in this unique history, technical appraisal (including tuning and motorsports) and data book of the Ford V8 Cleveland 335 engines produced in the USA, Canada and Australia, including input from the engineers involved in the design, development and subsequent manufacture of this highly-prized engine from its inception in 1968 until production ceased in 1982.
