Description:
The 2006 Goodwood Revival saw more than 110,000 spectators enjoy three days of thrilling wheel-to-wheel motorsport action at the world`s largest and most authentic historic motor race meeting.
The Revival combined many renowned racing names with some of the rarest and most famous historic racing machines, dicing wheel-to-wheel in often changeable and challenging conditions. Star drivers and riders in action included Revival stalwarts Sir Stirling Moss and Derek Bell; F1 stars Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi; motorcycle heroes Wayne Gardner and Niall MacKenzie; plus the late Australian touring car legend Peter Brock driving in his final circuit race.
The Goodwood Revival is so much more than an historic race meeting though it is a magical step back in time and an opportunity to revel in the romance and glamour of motor racing's halcyon days. The circuit is unchanged from its heyday and everything on site is exactly as it used to be. No modern vehicles are seen on site throughout the weekend, while overhead wartime aircraft fly past. Visitors enter into the spirit by dressing in period fashions, and the air is filled with the sounds and scent of the era, with bands playing authentic music and even the food having a 1950's flavour.
The 'typically British' weather at the 2006 Goodwood Revival added a real sense of drama and made for some edge-of-the-seat racing. The occasional rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the visitors to the event though. Most dressed in period fashions with everyone enjoying the world-class air displays, tributes, live entertainment, and huge pre-1966 Revival car show.
The Revival saw 15 exciting races, bringing the best drivers and riders together with some of the rarest and most exciting racing machines in the world. Racing highlights included the St Mary's Trophy for 1950's saloons, the Royal Automobile Club TT celebration with a £30 million grid of beautiful 1960's sportscars, plus some skillful, wet-weather motorcycle racing in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy. The Sussex Trophy for 1950's sports cars provided some masterful racing from a host of professional stars, and the newly revised Richmond Trophy for front-engined GP cars offered evocative machinery from motor racing's golden era, plus stars of yore Jochen Mass and Patrick Tambay in action.
Eight Spitfires in the air, the most over West Sussex skies since1945, helped celebrate 70 years since the maiden flight of this magical machine, and set the backdrop to a moving tribute to Revival regular, Spitfire pilot and aircraft ace Ray Hanna.
The long and distinguished motor racing career of Phil Hill three- time Le Mans winner and the only ever US-born Grand Prix World Champion, was also celebrated, with a mouth-watering parade of cars and drivers that formed a significant part of his competition career. More pedestrian, but no less impressive, was the parade of microcars from the late 1950's and early 1960's, giving a nostalgic reminder of these unusual vehicles that became popular during the fuel-starved Suez Crisis 50 years ago.
This DVD covers all of the action, both on the track and in the skies, as well as, the theatre and glamour in the paddocks. Sit back and enjoy the thrills and excitement of motor racing the way it used to be.
