Frequently Asked Questions
This is a list of the most frequently asked questions, which may help. If there is anything that is not clear or you have other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on 1800 622 422 within Australia or email us.
1. Can I pay by credit card over the phone?
* Yes, of course. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club. We prefer Visa, Mastercard and Bankcard as the commission is much less. Your card is not charged until we are ready to dispatch your order or (if we have confirmed it with you first) the part of your order we are dispatching.
2. What other methods of payment can I use?
* Phone, fax and Internet orders require a credit card. Australian customers mailing an order can send their credit card details or a cheque or money order made out to The Pitstop Bookshop.
* If paying by cheque or money order, please contact us to check if the titles are in stock and please don't forget the $8.95 for delivery.
* For Australian customers, we can also accept payment by electronic funds transfer (EFT) into our bank account, please call on 1800 622 422 for details.
* We cannot accept cheques drawn on non-Australian banks, PayPal or (UK) Switch Cards.
3. How long does delivery take (in Australia)?
* We use Australian Air Express (AAE) courier service. They deliver overnight to most major cities and many regional towns, but please allow for two days. Some country areas may take an extra day. Orders received by 3.00 pm Perth time should be dispatched the same day (Monday to Friday). For example, if you live in Sydney, you can order up to 5.00 pm your time (6.00 pm summer time) and you should receive your books the morning of the next business day. AAE also have a parcel tracking service on the Internet so we can look it up and check on the progress of your order.
If there is a problem with fulfilling your order we will make every attempt to contact you and work out a suitable solution for you.
4. How much is the postage?
* Using AAE, delivery is $8.95 (inclusive of 10% GST) per order regardless of the size of the order. However if the weight of one or more items is excessive, we do retain the right to charge accordingly or offer a better option using Australia Post. We would always advise you first of all or this would be mentioned in the product description of the item you are buying.
5. How do you send orders overseas?
* We use Air Mail for overseas orders and send anywhere in the world. While a little more expensive than other methods, we have found it more reliable and delivery much quicker. An example of costs for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong are:
|
Single DVD |
Parcel |
|
|
Method |
under 500g |
2 kg |
|
Air Mail |
$9.50 |
$31.00 |
For countries we regularly deliver to, our website will now calculate your airmail cost before you enter the credit card details. We also advise the cost of insurance, depending on the value of what you're buying.
Delivery time can vary between countries because of customs, season, geography etc but we will ensure your order is dispatched promptly unless you are advised otherwise.
6. Will your DVDs play on my system?
* This can be a complex issue, so we've set up a separate page here to help you.
7. Do you sell workshop manuals?
* Yes, we have a large range including genuine factory manuals, authorised reprints of genuine factory manuals, Gregorys (Aust), Haynes (UK, USA & Aust), Ellerys (Aust), Chiltons (USA), Clymer (USA) and Intertec (USA). We even have some marine outboard motor manuals.
8. Can you get a book or DVD for me?
* Yes, if it is in print, assuming that the suppliers will provide us with them!
If it is available in Australia it is very straight forward. If it is from the UK, again it is fairly easy as we have an air freight shipment out of London every weekend. Depending on availability, orders placed on Thursdays can be in Perth on the following Tuesday. From the USA it is a bit slower as we do not order as frequently. Please ask and we will do our best to help.
We only stock new books, however we do sometimes locate books for customers that are Out of Print (please read).
9. Do you stock magazines?
* We import a wide variety of magazines from the UK. For example Autocar, Autosport, Classic & Sportscar, Thoroughbred & Classic Car etc. A full list is available under Magazines in the Merchandise section of the Internet Catalogue. The UK magazines usually arrive a week after being published in the UK. Autosport, which is published each Thursday in the UK usually arrives with us the following Tuesday.
10. What happens if my order is wrong?
* Orders are doubly checked before they leave, at invoicing and before packing. It is almost unique for an incorrect order to be despatched. However, if you receive a book which is not the one you wanted, contact us right away and we will arrange an exchange or refund, which ever you wish. Videos are a bit more difficult if they have been used. However, the over-riding principle is that we want you to be completely satisfied so we will do everything we can to sort out any problems.
11. Do you stock second hand and out of print books?
* Mostly no. We will try to locate out of print titles for customers and we have a variety of specialists we can contact. At the moment we don't stock generally second hand books but there are some titles, such as various workshop manuals that are out of print and there is nothing else available for that vehicle. We will always try to find items to fulfill our customer needs, but do bear in mind that prices can vary quite a lot on out of print items depending upon quality and availability.
12. Can I reserve a title still to be released?
* Yes of course. We do this all the time, especially for annual books and DVDs. It can be done for any title and that is why we have the "Future Titles" section in the Internet catalogue.
13. Do you exchange customer information with any other parties?
*Absolutely not. Rest assured that customer details are securely held and are not shared with any other organisations. Privacy Statement
