Publisher`s notes:

Born Henry George Ferguson in 1884 in Dromore, Co. Down and known universally as Harry, he will forever be known for his role in the development of the modern agricultural tractor. Harry`s story however begins much earlier.

Harry Ferguson: Before the Plough is a comprehensive account of Ferguson`s early years, detailing his transition from restless youngster to accomplished aviator.

During his time as an apprentice at his brother`s motor repair workshop, a Jove for all things mechanical manifested itself, and Harry developed an overriding interest in aviation which led to a near obsession with the designing and building of his own aeroplane, and which saw him become the first Irishman to fly.

Authors Michael Clarke and Jack Woods have compiled this comprehensive and informative read on Harry`s exploits in his early days, telling the previously untold story of Harry Ferguson, aviator extraordinaire. Illustrated with a fine collection of plans and contemporary photographs, Harry Ferguson: Before the Plough is the fascinating story of one of Ulster`s most famous sons.
