Description: Ken Le Breton was a phenomenal speedway rider in the immediate postwar years, riding successfully in the UK as well as his native Australia. His career was short, he was killed in a heat of an Australia-England test match in January 1951, but other riders of the time remembered him with respect and affection. Here is the story of Ken Le Breton, the White Ghost, said to be the finest rider never to win a world title.Below is a review supplied by the publisher, Tempus Publishing in the UK (www.tempus-publishing.com)The sport of Speedway, over the past 75 years has had it`s fair share of legendary star riders. Names that conjure up so many memories in peoples minds. One such was the `White Ghost` as Ken Le Breton was known. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, his life story was one of many highs and lows. From a bleak childhood during the Great Depression, to surviving the terrible fighting in the jungles of New Guinea in WW2, before taking up the tough dangerous profession of Speedway racing. His dramatic appearance all in white, at the famous Sydney Sports Ground (May 1946) is well documented and is only matched by his seemingly meaningless tragic death on his home track, barely four years later. He arrived in Britain in 1947 in a blaze of glory and with great expectations, to race for one of the truly great teams of Speedway, `New Cross Rangers`. His image was immediately immortalised in a major film. His hopes were soon dashed within a matter of days and so began a long hard process to reach the top. Ken Le Breton`s career was all too brief, but wherever he rode and especially for his teams, Newcastle Diamonds, later for the mighty colourful Ashfield Giants, he found fame and fortune gaining many honours for both club and country. He was widely acclaimed, much loved within his profession as well as by a legion of devoted fans whocherish his memory still. It is also said with some justification that Ken was one of the most gifted riders of his day, and generally accepted as perhaps the finest rider never to win a World Title.
