Searching for Out of Print Books
As The Pitstop Bookshop is primarily involved with selling new books and DVDs we do not get involved with secondhand or Out of Print titles very often. Over the years however we have found various sources for such books as part of our regular business.
If you have internet access there is now a large range of websites available devoted to searching for books. Here are some of the most comprehensive ones that should help your search:
These websites are search engines where specialist booksellers all around the world register their stocks. Depending upon the book, you may find a wide variety of prices and conditions listed so check carefully. In many cases the sellers are retailers like ourselves and will not offer us any discount or terms, so we pay the same amount as you would. We also need to cover our costs and pay GST, so to purchase the books via us makes them more expensive than purchasing them direct from the seller.
Of course, there is also www.ebay.com or it's Australian version www.ebay.com.au (or even the UK version www.ebay.co.uk ) which is worth checking as well.
Many sources for these books are overseas, primarily in the USA or UK, so don't forget to allow for freight costs. Most overseas sellers will happily accept Credit Cards (usually Visa or Mastercard) and Paypal is growing in acceptance as well (details on www.paypal.com). We have had no problems with payments and credit cards in over 10 years of dealing with booksellers from overseas, but do note that some American booksellers are not interested in dealing with overseas enquiries.
If you have any queries about sourcing Out of Print books, please do not hesitate to enquire with us.
