Description: Producer's notes: The theme of the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed was 'True Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance' - a theme that was reflected admirably in the selection of over 400 cars and motorcycles, plus more than 120 star drivers and riders, participating in the event. Two reigning World Champions - Lewis Hamilton (Fl) and Sebastien Loeb (WRC) - put on an amazing show for the motor racing fans. Loeb was on stellar form in his Citroen C4 WRC, joined by a host of rallying legends including Walter Rdhrl, Stig Blomqvist and Hannu Mikkola, while Hamilton drove his 2008 Fl Championship-winning Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes MP4/23. 2009 Fl sensation Jenson Button was also on hand to entertain the Festival crowds,as were six current Fl teams. A slice of Hollywood came to the 2009 Festival, courtesy of big name stars like jay Leno and Peter Fonda, who marked the 40th anniversary of his seminal Easy Rider movie by riding up the Hill on his famous 'Captain America' chopper. Meanwhile, wild man Jesse James wowed onlookers in his earth-shattering 950bhp Baja-style Trophy Truck'. The 2009 Festival celebrated many significant anniversaries, with Audi marking its centenary with a jaw-dropping 'central feature' display, plus a mouth-watering selection of cars spanning the marque's racing history. The centenary of Bugatti was marked too, with some truly fabulous cars. The 75th anniversary of the German Silver Arrow racers saw a record gathering of 15 examples from Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz, while a paddock row filled with 12 Porsche 917s - 40 years after its introduction - was also a jaw-dropping spectacle. Fifty years of the Mini were honoured with various examples of the Issigonis classic present, including a dedicated class as part of the celebrated Cartier 'Style et Luxe' car design competition. A timed shoot out on the closing Sunday afternoon saw the fastest cars race up the 1. 16-mile Goodwood hillclimb in a final run for the honour of fastest time of the weekend. Add in other Festival attractions, including the latest and greatest supercars, a glimpse of the future in the FoS-Tech pavilion, top racing motorcycles and riders including legendary world champions Mick Doohan, Max Biaggi and Troy Corser, plus spectacular air displays, and the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed was a true classic. Enjoy the ride...
